Problem sending mail via webmail client

Post by Krudtugle »

I can send mails with an email client (Thunderbird). For outgoing mail I've configured my external email provider´s SMTP server in the mail client.

The same configuration is done in B3 (I guess the outgoing email server settings in B3 are used for the webmail), but I can't send mail via webmail...

Well, it appears as though the mails are sent, and they're even copied to the Sent folder, but the mails aren't delivered, which is really bad!

Any ideas?

Basically, mail.info talks about authentication failure:

Code: Select all

Dec 11 09:01:13 b3 postfix/smtp[3204]: CE8F960300: to=<xyz@xyz>, relay=mail.xyz.se[109.73.xyz.xyz]:26, delay=2.4, delays=0.13/0.07/2.2/0, dsn=4.7.0, status=deferred (SASL authentication failed; cannot authenticate to server mail.xyz.se[109.73.xyz.xyz]: no mechanism available)
So, I tried different settings in the B3 admin GUI and what DID work was to enable "Use plain text authentication". Then the mail was delivered, BUT this isn't really what I want, since the warning text in the GUI says:

(Not recommended, passwords will be sent unencrypted.)

Could it be that it's the mail server that requires plain text authentication?

SASL authentication can be a bit of a pain to set up. But if you're not even sure that the mail server actually allows SASL auth, first be sure whether your problem is not on that end before messing with bubba settings. Easiest is to see if your thunderbird client can so sasl-auth.
