Bubba 2 security upgrades

Post by mntnoe »

It has been a couple of months since there has been any updates available when running dist-upgrade. This means that either my Bubba 2 has some pretty secure software, or that I am not receiving the security updates.

My /etc/apt/sources.list (excluding comments):

Code: Select all

deb http://update.excito.org/ marielle main
deb http://update.excito.org/ upstream_etch main
deb http://update.excito.org/ upstream_etch_backports main
deb http://archive.debian.org/debian/ etch main
It this sufficient to receive the security updates?

Thanks in advance.

The problem is that the Debian version etch that Bubba 2 is built up on has been discontinued http://www.debian.org/releases/etch/ so until Excito updates the Bubba 2 software to use the debian version Lenny which Bubba 3 uses you will not get any security uppgrades. That unfortunatly means that Bubba2 gets less and less secure each day. You can find some information about what Excito does to get Bubba 2 to run Lenny in this post http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?f ... nny#p11893

Thanks for the reply, ryz.

I will try to upgrade against the b3.update.excito.org repo then when I get time, then.

Hang on. Etch is still supported by Debian, you need to change the source of the packages to an //archive// dir. Theres a thread about it somehwere.

I believe this is the thread:

However, I already have the archive repository in my sources.list.

Sorry but etch is not supported any more
Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 has been superseded by Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 ("lenny"). Security updates have been discontinued as of the end of February 2010
Here is the link to the etch release http://www.debian.org/releases/etch/
