Is open DNS safe to use with my home router? Is it ok to change my router settings to the Open DNS settings? My dad works from home sometimes and I need to make sure this won't mess up his VPN conections.

If you just point your DNS entries to OpenDNS I can't see how this could affect your VPN settings (BTW, to you incoming or outgoing VPN connections?).
OpenDNS is perfectly safe and has some very good features, as well as being very fast.
