Printer problems - Laserjet 1010

Post by bubbabruce »

Hi all - I'm not a techie guy, so please go easy on me!

I am running WinXP and have a laserjet 1010 printer. I have always used this on a netgear print server no problems.

Since I bought a Bubba2 for use with my squeezeboxes I thought I'd make use of it's print server abilities.

I enabled the printer facility in the setup and followed the instructions to install a printer, which is connects directly by USB. No issues with that - saw it straight away and I reinstalled the correct HP Laserjet 1010 driver from the list.

That's when the problems started. Nothing happens when you print, except the light on the printer does flash. However it just keeps flashing and the job is shown as complete when I view the printer jobs :(

Then it started not flashing at all when Is ent a print job, then the other evening (after a long pause) it printed the following:

> > > PCL XL error
> > >
> > > Subsystem: KERNEL
> > > Error: UnsupportedBinding
> > > Operator: 0x0
> > > Position: 0

It has also printed garbage on a couple of occasions.

If I go directly into the CUPS UI the printer is shown, and the jobs displayed etc..

Email support have tried to resolve this, and I uninstalled / resinstalled the printer several times now. No workstation can print through it.

It looks to my very low techi mind to be a driver issue. Anyone else using a Lasejet 1010 with / without success?

Thanks

So ... is Bubba able to print ?
CUPS UI (Bubba) can you print test page from Bubba without problems?
If so then the problem must in Windows printer installations ....
