Bubba stops answering on http://bubba and \\bubba

Post by Tompa »

Hi all,

My bubba sometimes stops responding to the "bubba" network name.
It seem to happen everytime I reset my router (and the including dhcp-server). Still, it always answers on the IP-address as it should though.

Is there a "samba daemon" or similar that can be restarted? It's beginning to be a bit annoying to have to restart bubba each time.

Hi Tompa,

Which operating system do you run on your desktop computer? And does your router contain any DNS server functionality?

You can restart samba, logged in as root, with:

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/samba restart
But it shouldnt be nessecary to do this. Since it stops working when your router is restarted it sounds like some DNS forgets about Bubba.

Funny, I cannot seem to reproduce this error any longer so in a way thats good ;)

I recently installed Windows Vista and after that I havent seen the problem. I used to run Windows XP on my client computer.

I have a dlink DI-624 router and the client is configured to recieve both IP and DNS dynamically from dhcp.

I thought that a \\bubba call on the network meant a netbios broadcast rather than resolving the ip using DNS?
