Compatible SSD Drives?

Post by GNOE Inc.. »

Is there a list with compatible SSD Drives available?

I already have a BUBBA|TWO server with a normal IDE Drive and I want to upgrade this with a SSD Drive. Which SSD drives are already tested/ which SSD Drive I can use best?

Thanx!

GNOE,

We use Patriot Warp drives, due to a good tradeoff of performance, reliability and price. We also tested Trancend drives (a bit lower priced than Patriot Warp), but skipped those due to their bad reputation from other tests. We however didn't find anything wrong with them in our tests.

I am quite confident that all 2.5" SATA SSD drives will work great, but do read up (google) on the model number to check for common problems etc..

Note that you will need an additional screw for assembling 2.5" drives in Bubba Two (M3 x 6-10 mm). Let us know if you need and we'll mail you one.

All the best,

I'm planning to use a SSD in my bubba2 system but have a problem. Currently my system has a 750GB 3.5" disk on it and a SSD will be much smaller. In time I loaded and customized a lot of thing on my bubba2. I don't want to lose or do them again. I'm not an expert on debian also. These customizations done by googling. I tried to clone the bubba disk to a smaller disk by acronis trueimage and failed. It can not shrink the lvm partition. I also tried a linux live cd with gparted and this tool also can not handle lvm partitions.

So, how can I migrate my system to a smaller disk?

Also is it possible to use a 2.5" 4200rpm low energy/noise sata disk with a 2.5" to 3.5" converter on bubba? Is it a bad idea to use one?

An answer to the last question:

Yes, a 2,5" drive is possible to use, and you do not need any 2,5 -> 3,5 converters. It will fit as it is. You do need one short M3 screw to fasten the disk in the mainboard though.

Regarding migrating to a smaller disk I'll have to direct you to one of my colleagues.

Hello Johannes,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there is a need for a converter. I bought a Fujitsu MHZ2400BT disk with a power consumption of 1.8W. The screw slots aren't matching with the board.

Correct, you shouldn't use the sliders (metal L-shaped holders), you should screw the disk with one screw onto the mainboard directly. This applies to revD boards only, perhaps you have a very old Bubba Two (rev C board)? In that case let me know and we'll exchange the board for you.

No, I didn't try the sliders and yes, I have a revision B written on my mainboard.

Ok, then this is my fault, I didn't think about that older boards don't support this issue. Please contact us at [email protected] and we'll exchange your board asap.
