Re: external ftp login
I use a bridged modem which just lets all trafic though to my router which handles the login with PPoE. The Bubba is directly connected to the Routers switch.msx wrote:maybe your firewall is stopping.. how's your network setup?Maximus wrote:Hello!

I have static internal IP-addresses for my home network and have allowed Demiliterized Zone (DMZ) for Bubba.. right now because I don't seem to get to this to work. otherwise I would use Virtual Servers FTP, http(s) etc for the IP-address assigned to Bubba.
/Maximus
Since I'm using DMZ in my router for Bubba.. there should be no firewall att all... and since my devices in my home have static IP and the IP of Bubba is the same always... I know DMZ is correct along with all Virtual Servers I have for Bubba otherwise..johannes wrote:It definitly sounds like you router/firewall is blocking the ftp traffic. Does other services work externally, like web (http)? Https?

Well webserver works well externally.
I tried using the program SmartFTP to externally access bubba.
It finds bubba.... logs in with my username and pass... then is rejected by an internal program when logged in on bubba SmartFTP is telling me.
I have a problem with https because I am pointing my domain name att the moment to my IP. Untill I get a static one I have to use Crystones ssl-certificate which is overdue since december. Does it work this way? Does this seem correct? Correct me since I am no expert in networking. Locally everything http, https, ftp works great.

Strange. This usually works just fine. Could you please describe the error message more in detail? Also, when you test this, are you testing from an external IP (i.e. at work), or are you just testing to reach your public IP from your LAN?

The Log message when I use SmartFTP
The Log message bellow is the same if i access my public IP from my home network or use my 3G Vodafone internet connection accessing it. (in other words outside home network)
SmartFTP Log (Original):
For those not understanding swedish, a translation of the lines above:
line 1: Changing hostname "minbubba.com"
line 2: Connecting to 83.168.194.80 Port:20
line 3: Connected to minbubba.com
line 4: An established connection was interupted by the software in the host computer.
line:5: Server shutdown the connection.
Ok.. maybe line 4... meaning the host computer being the host of the program SmartFTP being my laptop.. and not bubba the host for the FTP login... I have been thinking.
OK I have no antivirus programs nor firewall. What could windows do to stop this connection? Windows firewall is off! If it now is my laptop making this impossible.
Using the build in FTP in windows:
Using ftp://minbubba.com
logging in with my user and password.
Error message:
------------------------------------------------
It is not possible to access this catalog. Check that you have given the correct file name and that you have access rights to this catalog
Details: Not possible to establish a connection to server.
---------------------------------------------------
But locally I can write using Windows FTP:
ftp://bubba
with same user and pass and all works and I get to my home directory.

I think that when SmartFTP refers to the "host computer" it means Bubba, for some reason Bubba won't respond to ftp traffic.
Since I can't come to think of anything else, a few things to check:
- is ftp enabled in the bubba services menu (I guess it has to be since you can access it locally)
- When you tried port forwarding in your router, did you forward port 21 to 'bubba', or directly to bubba's IP number?
However, it's strange that it lets http traffic through, but not ftp. What is the brand and model of your router? Maybe you could attach a screen dump of the router settings?
