Fails to work from the outset

Post by drewbb »

Hi
I have recently taken delivery of my birthday present (thanks wife!).
However it will not start. Following the instructions (to the letter!!!)
Connect the black network cable
between the BUBBA|TWO LAN-port
and your PC.
Connect the 12V power adapter first
to a mains supply, and then to
BUBBA|TWO. The blue front light
will blink for a few seconds while
starting, and then stay constantly lit.
Start a web browser and type
‘http://bubba/’
Log on using ‘admin’ as user name and ‘admin’ as password.
What I get is http:// www.bubba.com appearing. That's it nothing else. because I am not connected and wireless is off.
I am using an EEEPC 901 linux. I now have a black brick on my desk.

All offers of help gratefullu accepted.

Does the Bubba start as is described in het manual?
The blue front light
will blink for a few seconds while
starting, and then stay constantly lit.
If it behaves differently there may be something wrong with the Bubba or its Hard disk.
Next you should check if the pc has been given an ip-adress bij the bubba. (Can't tell by heart how to do this on a EEEpc), using windows you type ipconfig/all and look if there is an ip-adress like 192.168.10.x if not Bubba has not configured the EEEpc. In that case there are two options: 1. the EEEpc has not asked for a ip-adress or
2. Bubba wasn't reached bij the EEEpc.

You may manually set the adress of your EEEpc to 192.168.10.100 and then try to contact the Bubba (typing 192.168.10.1 in your browser and see if that does the trick.

(I think you should try this first, it's pretty hard to explain all this without access to the computer).

Make sure that your EEEPC recieves DNS information from the bubba.

Hi Carl and Binkem

1. Binkem. Lights flash etc. as per instructions. I'll try the ip addresses when I get home from work.
2. Carl. How do I do that?

What I am trying to do is have the ADSL telephone line connect to the ADSL router/modem/wifi and then attach the server on the side.

I cannot see a way of attaching the telephone jack into the bubba and then the Netgear router.

Is there a general reset option on the Bubba, that I don't know about?

Thanks

I tried the ip address suggestion but there is no contact with the bubba at all.
Does anybody have any other ideas.
thanks

Hi
With a windows machine running ipconfig I get the following result:

connection-specific DNS suffix: blank
autoconfiguration ip address: 169.254.209.166
subnet mask:255.255.0.0
default gateway: blank

This means that the machine did not get an Ip adress from bubba. In that case it automaticcally resets to an 196.254.xyz.xyz adress.
You may try to manually set the ip-adress to an 192.168.10.xyz and then try to ping 192.168.10.1
If that doesn't work my guess is that Bubba isn't functioning. You might try reinstalling bubba using a USB-stick, but it is possible that the hard-disk hasn't survived the mail (same problem I had when my Bubba arrived).

But you might ask Carl for his opinion before reinstalling or returning your Bubba

Hi Binkem

Thanks for the response.

I have emailed excito to see if they can help. But I am glad that it was not just my machine that has failed on arrival. Thats not meant to sound horrible by the way.

Yes, it's hard to know the cause, it can be something strange with your computer configuration, but also a transport damage. Again, just to make sure:

1) Does the blue LED stay constantly lit after boot?

2) Does the link led (back of Bubba Two) light (green)?

If you can't figure it out please email support@excito.com and we'll arrange for a swift exchange for a new one.

Very sorry for this trouble.

Dear Johannes

The answer is yes to both questions, I have emailed support thankyou.

I will have to send it back as my 30 period is running out.
