Do you mean spin-down during idle operation, or spin-down after power-down?

Bubba doesn't spin down it's disk during idle operation. Many of the server features accesses the disk regularly, wich would cause the disk to spin-up very often if spin-down was implemented. This would shorten the disk's lifetime substantially.

If you mean that the disk doesn't spin-down after power down, let us know. It should.

How to make disk spindown anyhow?

Post by donnie »

I have turned off allot of the bubba features and is just using it as fileserver, SSH login and Squid proxy at work.

I really really wanto spindown the disks when idle.
I've tried with hdparm -S but it does not spindown, something else that one has to do?

Hi,

If you want to experiment with disk spin down you should read up on laptop mode. Or try out the laptop_mode packages available from here: http://samwel.tk/laptop_mode/ and more specific http://samwel.tk/laptop_mode/packages/debian
