Character set: ä ö ü cant display

hi..

i copy some files from a windows disk. now, the filenames contains ?, instead ä/ö/ü.

i convert all files with convmv to utf-8. But the ? are still there:

What do you use to ssh into console?

There is a fairly recent topic here on the B2 & B3 Support forum (some 3-4 months I think) that covers a similar issue with East European characters not displaying correctly.

i try to understand your question. i use putty and for copying these files, i use winscp.

Strange. I just did a quick search for "East European" in the form at the top of this page and found it instantly. The topic is named EE-Characters diacritics and the issue was with Putty.
