Problems accessing the B3

Hi,

Long story short: only randomly I can access my B3 from the internet. Wherever i access the B3 through myownb3.com or through the IP address, after accessing the B3, in a few seconds B3 is unreachable.It is setup as a server, behind a router (with port forwarding through UPnP).

So you have no problems accessing the B3 from the local network?
I suspect the issue is with port forwarding using uPNP. Can you not set up stable routes in that router?

No, from my LAN I have no problems.
I will try to set up static routes when I get home (I use an TP-Link router with dd-wrt)

If you have no problems form the lan, then this issue is, per definition, in your router. The funny messages in the log also suggest the upnp mapping is not working too well.

I don't know if it is relevant, but I can't acces my B3 using b3.local in the browser. I have to write the full address (192.168.0.102)

thats unrelated, but likely also a router issue (as your router is probably your dns server, and your NETBIOS is borked)

If you can connect and then it breaks, this is usually because the application directs you to a different port or even network protocol that is not also forwarded to the server. From what I read UPnP requires TCP port 3074 and UDP ports 88 and 3074 to be forwarded from the firewall device. Did you enable all of them?

Alternatively, many routers have a setting that will pass all incoming traffic (that is not handled by the router itself) on to a so called DMZ address. This essentially fully exposes that machine to the internet, but that is obviously not an issue for the B3.

I tried last night what you suggested, but it does the same. Now it's accesible from the internet, now it doesn't.

That would be the case when using the DNS name. If using the IP address there should be no issue.

Also: I just did a quick internet search and dd-wrt does support configuring what they call a "static lease". You may find this page useful. Setting a DMZ machine is apparently supported as well.

If you are setting a static IP on the B3, be sure to set it outside of the DHCP range (for you this starts at 100, so any number between 1 and 100 is ok).

Well, we all know what happens if you set a static IP to a machine inside the DHCP range and do not tell the DHCP server about it: the DHCP server will hand out this address as available and you end up with two machines with the same IP address.

I do not understand why you joke this issue away as you know it is a common problem with novice users.

I'm sorry. I think we're talking two different things here. What I am referring to is a setting in dd-wrt (and many other routers) where you can instruct the integrated DHCP server to hand out the same IP address every time to a specific hardware (MAC) address. If supported, you'll find this option as "static lease", "reserved address", "fixed address" etcetera. You do not change anything on the client machine - this will still use DHCP to retrieve its IP address.
