Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
Hi all,
I have problem to access my bubba 2 from Windows 7. From my Archlinux instalation everything works very nice.
In windows from web browser I can acces bubba with http://bubba/admin/ no problem.
My lan is 192.168.10.1 Windows 7 have IP 192.168.10.53 so they should be on the same subnet.
In bubba I use profile Router + Firewall + Server
In bubba LAN settings.
Use static IP adress settingsm IP 192.168.10.1, netmask 255.255.255.0
Enable DNS and DHCP service
Lease range. 192.168.10.50 to 192.168.10.100
Jumboframe enable.
Anyone who have any ide were to start to look for error?
All input wellcome.
Best regards,
Christer

Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
OK. I'm going to assume this:
Do you have gig Ethernet on your PC? If not, you should disable jumbo frames.
Could you explain how all this is connected. Can you ping the bubba from the windows machine?
Is a typo. Otherwise, what's the problem? In windows from web browser I can acces bubba with http://bubba/admin/ no problem.

Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
My problem is that I can not use my server as a file server in a easy way from windows.
My computer is connected with wireless NIC, 802.11n to a Netgear router that is not working as a router. I have flashed it with Tomato software and configured it as a switch, then to my bubba server.
No problem to ping the bubba from windows machine.

OK, first you need to disable jumbo frames as I said because you're not using gig ethernet.agkbill wrote:My problem is that I can not use my server as a file server in a easy way from windows.

Second, you really need to explain properly what the problem is and what you've tried.
Even your thread title has a typo in it that makes it ambigous - "Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7." Does that mean "Can not use..." or Can not see..."?
So, from your Windows PC you can browse to the web interface, but cannot access the file shares. Is that right? How are you trying to access the file shares?
Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
I hear this is quite common with Windows 7. Apparently Microsoft thinks we're all idiots and they slam everything shut as some kind of courtesy to prevent us from being made abuse of by untrusted peers (i.e. non-Microsoft but also older Windows).
Anyway, here's what should fix it:
Anyway, here's what should fix it:
Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy
Local Policies - Security Options
Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Send LM & NTLM responses
Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption
Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
Thank you for input.
I have disabled jumbo frames.
In the "getting started" guide page 10 it say:
"In Windows - go to windows explorer (also called
Computer or This computer). Click Network and then
Bubba"
But in Network there is no Bubba.
I followed you guide Gordon, thank you. But I can still not se Bubba, Windows 7 do not detect it.
Guess it is some security setting that cause all this.

Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
I think the issue may be that the Bubba is in a different workgroup. You could try to browse "Entire network" in Windows explorer and see if that pops it up. Not being able to see another computer also does not necessarily mean that you cannot connect to it. You can simply enter the networkaddress of where you want to go in the address bar in Windows explorer, i.e. \\b3 or \\192.168.10.1.

Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
Indeed, I've never put much faith in the "Network Neighbourhood's" ability to find network services.
Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
you can set the workgroup name of your bubba to the same your windows pc is:
A) Login with Administrator on http://(yourbubbaname)/
B) Goto Settings / Identity
To check or modify your workgroup under Windows:
A) Goto Control Panel / System & Secuity / System
B) Klick "Advanced System Settings" on the left
C) In the System Properties Dialog klick on the tab "Computer Name"
If setting the same workgroup of both systems doesn't work, maybe the File and Printer Sharing is diabled.
But the Network and Shareing Center should claim about.

Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
Thank you for suggestions on solutions.
Still no success.
I set the workgroup to the same, tried both "excito" and mocrosofts own "homegroup" as names but non of them is working.
I have also tried to map as network drive with Folder: \\BUBBA\home\storage and \\192.168.10.1\home\storage
No problem to ping 192.168.10.1 from command promt
also it works to ping bubba, I mean ping on the name bubba
Looks like Windows 7 is blocking networking with samba in some way. I can connect from a mac computer to bubba and of cause from linux computers.
Best regards.

Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
Anything to do with this - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... k-location
Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
Be aware that homegroup is NOT the same as the old network neighborhood! It is a new protocol that is win7 only an not compatible with samba.
However you should be able to go to windows explorere and type \\192.168.0.1\ and be able to log on. If the connection fails, try loking for connections on bubba with iptraf, and turn off the win7firewall

Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
I am not using Homegroup.
Workgroup name I set in system properties, computername.
The Win7firewall I have turned off, should not need when I use bubba as firewall.
\\192.168.10.1\home\storage do not work
\\bubba\home\storage do not work
\\192.168.10.1\ do not work
I get the dialog, windows cannot access \\192.168.10.1\
If I press diagnos I get info thar problems found.
Issues found
The remote device or resource won't accept the connection
Could it be any setting in bubba that is not OK?
In Services. File sharing I have enabled windows share

Re: Can not se bubba under Network in Windows 7.
i assume you are using your bubba as a router though?agkbill wrote:The Win7firewall I have turned off, should not need when I use bubba as firewall.
how are your network devicees connected together?
it is allways possible. i had to reinstall bubba because my ssh didn't work.agkbill wrote:Could it be any setting in bubba that is not OK?
yes, you could check with putty over ssh about the config and situation.
but i don't know the ssh commands and wold need to digg myself for.
