Login issues B3 as wireless client

Post by mou »

Hi,

Because I need to have my B3 (firmware 2.3.2) in another room than the router, I followed this instruction:

Connect your B3 to your wireless network
http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2938

This worked so far, I can connect to my user account with my laptop running Ubuntu 11.10 over SFTP.
Also the attached printer works over wifi.

But I can not login with my Android phone. SMB nor SFTP works, I tried different apps too. Just the ES File Explorer over FTP can login but it is useless slow. At least this means, the IP address, user name and password are correct.

Any idea? I am new to this network stuff maybe it's something small I don't get.

Thanks

...in the meantime I tried /etc/init.d/bubba-firewall stop

to turn the firewall temporarily off but it didn't help either

Probably a stupid question, but are you sure yoru smartphone is on wifi? If it's on 3G you probably have a firewall blocking...

yes, I am sure the phone is on wifi. and because one error message says "server auth failure", the firewall could be an issue. but i can't change any settings in the firewall (it's all greyed out) because of the instruction i followed.

Sometimes signs & figures are transferred in different ways which makes them get interpreted wrongly, try setting password to something very simple with all normal letters.

Thanks for the tip, _NE_
Ok, I changed the password using just letters (before it was a mix of numbers and letters).
Just with one app (called File Expert) I can access my B3 with a fast connection over SFTP.
However, all other apps and connections still don't work and I do not understand why.
In case somebody runs into a similar problem below the Android apps I tested.

Astro File Manager:
SMB: no connection possible
FTP: function not available in Astro
SFTP: error message, auth fail or socket timeout exception

ES File Explorer:
SMB: error message, login failure
FTP: works (active and passive) but useless slow
SFTP: error message, auth fail or cannot find server

File Expert:
SMB: error message, cannot access folder
FTP: error message, cannot access folder
SFTP: works, fast connection

I used encoding UTF-8 (I tried also all other settings but it didn't help) and of course always the same IP, user name and password.

Just a final information, after some back and forth I gave up on the B3 set-up according to the instruction in my first post. Too much hassle with connection speed and access as well as some Ubuntu applications had trouble to connect wireless. Somehow the communication between the wireless Router and the wireless B3 didn't work properly. Now I use a Devolo Powerline from my router to the B3 (because they are in separate rooms) and I use the B3 as a wireless access point (the wireless function on the router is turned off). Since then everything works just fine :D
