Easyfind does not update dynamic IP address

Post by areimer »

Hello,

It seems that my DNS entry gets not updated automatically by the Easyfind service.

- My B3 is connected to an IP/DSL router.
- The router is the gateway to my ISP.
- The router uses NAT.
- The firewall settings of the router no not block any outgoing connections.

A typical home network, nothing unusual.

From time to time, my ISP assigns a new IP address to the router.
The problem: This update is not propagated to the DNS.

When I look up my Router's address with

Code: Select all

nslookup <myname>.myownb3.com
the name server still returns the old (outdated) IP address and never gets updated.

The Easyfind service is switched on in the admin web-interface.
When I click the 'Update Easyfind'-Button, the DNS gets updated immediately, but this is supposed to happen automatically similar to DynDNS, isn't it?

Hi,

There are two ways for the B3 to get informed of changing external IP number:

1. It's WAN port iP is updated (requires B3 to be the router), or
2. Having UPnP capabilities turned on in the router, and turned on in B3 (requires software 2.3 or later).

In B3 this setting is available as the last setting in the admin -> services page.

So please enable UPnP capabilities in your router and you should be fine.

Hello Johannes,

thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, it still does not work.
There are two ways for the B3 to get informed of changing external IP number:

1. It's WAN port iP is updated (requires B3 to be the router), or
2. Having UPnP capabilities turned on in the router, and turned on in B3 (requires software 2.3 or later).
I do not use the B3 as a router, so I would like to go with option 2.
In B3 this setting is available as the last setting in the admin -> services page.

So please enable UPnP capabilities in your router and you should be fine.
Unfortunately, this option does not exist on my B3. (I use version 2.3.1.1 and I'm logged in as admin).
Last setting in admin -> services page is 'Remote access through other router' and that is already turned on. Actually, all options on this page are on except 'Squeezebox Server'.

The UPnP feature of my router is enabled.

Do I need to install additional software or upgrade my B3 to a more recent software version?

Hello,

Ah, this is strange. That is the option I was talking about, so you have the correct software version. I would like to file that as a bug report then, can you please give me your router make and model? Perhaps we don't have support (yet) for your model (or your model doesn't support the feature we rely on).

Thanks

I also don't have an option specifically mentioning UPnP. I assumed it was the option that says "allow remote access through router". @areimer - do you have that option?

Hello,

My router is a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND.
Firmware Version: 3.12.2 Build 100820 Rel.41891n
Hardware Version: WR1043N v1 00000000

@RandomUsername: Yes, I have this option. Although UPnP is not mentioned directly, I think it means 'UPnP Port Forwarding' in 'Non-Techie-Speak'. :-)
