Premmissions don´t seem to work

Post by antant1 »

At my workplace we are using a bubba2 as a fileserver to share files and remote acess files from computers at home or such.

In the storage folder we have a folder with our common files, named "common folder". We would like to create a new user with read only abilites in that folder.

We created a new user, called x, I set the padlock on the "common folder" to
owner: read and write
User: read only
Not logged in: read and write

But the "x" user still can delete and ad files to the "common folder".

In the common folder we have numeruos of subfolders, when trying to change settings on them by clickning the padlock I just get the message in bottom of the screen saying

"Failed to change permission for following files and folders: /home/storage/common files/xxxy"

Why is this?

The only use we have of our bubba is a file server and we really need to have a couple of "read only" users, is there anatoher way to create that?

all users are part of "not logged in" so that explains the writing. FOr the rest I have the feeling you combined two questions into one mail, but I have difficulty finding out where the first question stops and the second begins

well changing the settings on not logged in did not do any diffrence.

A guess my first question is if we are doing this the right way or if we are all wrong, is it even possible to have the "x" to have read only acsess to our common folder?

And the other is why the acsess settings is not working on the subfolders?

And issen´t the acsess settings on a folder supposed to be the same in a subfolder?
