.htacces

Post by pcrene »

Hello All

I found in alot of folders the file .htacces. I troubled me because i could not delete some folders due to that file.
Is it safe to remove them all? What script is best to use to delete them all?

That is a file that tells Apache who can and who can't read stuff in those folders. It could be risky to remove them, but if you at the same time remove the entire folder keeping it it's no problem. And you are really sure you really want to delete those folders, right?

I don't know how you are trying to delete now, but simply doing a "rm -rf foldername" deletes entire folder including all files and subfolders. But watch closely so you are deleting the right stuff before pressing enter, there is no undo button 8)

Hello Daniel,

Yes i know that about apache..BUT....i see them also in all my music folders.
If i want to delete such a folder from the web interface or windows file explorer it never can delete those files and i am only able to delete these folders from ssh.

I think what ubi meant was whats in the .htaccess files. They are just plain text files, so you can open them in any text editor...
