Does printer server support mac

Post by canonjon »

Hi

I have a Netgear CG3100 with NAT off, wifi off and in a bridge mode. The B3 has automatic network settings on. The Netgear LAN 1 is wired too the B3 WAN. I can go online and I can see the B3 on the network. I have connected a usb printer, HP Laserjet 1020, too the B3 and I have added it through the web interface. With windows 7 I can see the printer on the network under \\B3\ I have installed it on the windows 7 laptop and I have also printed a page so it works. But I can´t see the printer on the mac laptop that has OSX 1.0.6.6. I can see the B3 and the home and storage folder but not the HP Laserjet 1020. Both computers are connected too the network through B3:s wifi. So I wonder if the printer server supports mac?

Best Regards

Mac supports SMB printing, so I guess yes. Did you try:

I have got the printer server setup to work on the mac. Here is how:

Add the printer to the B3.

Change the Workgroup Name on Your Mac (OS X 10.6.x)
1. Launch System Preferences by clicking its icon in the Dock.
2. Click the 'Network' icon in the System Preferences window.
3. Click the 'Advanced' button.
4. Select the 'WINS' tab.
5. In the 'Workgroup' field, write excito.
6. Click the 'OK' button.
7. Click the 'Apply' button.

After you click the 'Apply' button, your network connection will be dropped. After a few moments, your network connection will be re-established, with the new workgroup name you created. I even did a restart.

To add a printer
1. Launch System Preferences by clicking its icon in the Dock.
2. Click the 'Printer and fax' icon in the System Preferences window.
3. click the add button (+)
4. click on the printer icon nr 4 going from left too right
5. That will bring up three columns and on the left one you will see the name excito, click on that.
5. The name B3 will come up on the middle column and click on that name.
6. The name of the printer will come up and click on that name.
7. This will give you the option to add that printer and to select a specific driver for the printer.

That is what I did and I can now print from the mac 10.6.6 and from windows 7. I hope this can be of help.

Best Regards
Jon
