B2 reliability considerations

Hi

I use my B2 exclusively for Asterisk VOIP - it hasn't fallen over in months and months! At the moment I have a standard 500GB drive in it. As it's running 2 phone lines and multiple extensions for my home and office I'm wondering about what steps I should take if the drive fails. I've had my B2 since it was released (2+ years now?). If the drive did fail I would be without a phone line - which is a big issue. I'm wondering if I should replace the drive with an SSD? Also is there a way to boot Bubba from an external drive - i.e. mirror whats' on the internal drive and have an external device backup if things go horribly wrong. It would be great if I could boot from a USB stick which has Linux + my Asterisk setup.

Howdy,

Why not buy another 500 GB HDD and make a mirror of the bubba disk (they are cheep now).
Then at least you can plug the new one in when/if the bubba fails...
If you mount it in a PC you can make sure it is kept up to date with rsync.
In order to be absolutely sure, you'd need a second bubba, the HDD is not enough. What would happen if the bubba motherboard would fail?

I have also come to depend on the bubba for essential functionality. I settled for an USP.
If the HDD (or any other hardware) fails, I reckon it can be replaced quickly enough...
