B|2 eSATA and external Disk

Post by LudwigVan »

Hi,
I have an excito external eSATA-Disk which I use for RAID. Now I bought a Verbatim external disk with USB2 and eSATA. When I plug in USB2 it is recognized and I can browse it. When I plug in eSATA Bubba tells me that my RAID is degraded and I can not browse the Verbatim-Disk which I want to use for backup.

Why is that so?

If I pull the plug and after reboot of Bubba try to restore RAID I can choose between excito-disk and Verbatim-disk.

L.

[edit]
Well smth. strange: I run a backup-job as described in the manual while connecting Verbatim via USB - but nothing happens...

Any idea?

because you told your bubba server that whatever disk is connected to the esata port is part of the RAID (it's described in /etc/mdadm.conf). Because your verbatim disk is not annotated in it's partition table as being part of a RAID array (and it does not contain the same data as the primary anyway) your server correctly notifies this disk as corrupt. So all is working great, the problem may be that you do not understand how RAID works

Well, I followed the excito instructions. So, ok I did not understand this part of RAID. But no need of such an answer. And if I did not understood maybe you can explain why it says the disc being corrupt while the other disk is still visible?

However this chit chat does not explain why backup does not work via usb. Maybe you have also an answer?

I do not understand what you mean by this sentence. Can you elaborate without referring implicitly to "the disk" and "the other disk"?

No sorry, never used it.
