To make installation image from existing operating system

Hi,

I'm running Debian GNU/Linux Wheezy system on my Bubba2.

Can I make an installation image from this system that I can put on an USB stick?

So, if I can't anymore boot my Bubba2 with a custom kernel, I wish to use this installation image to get back my previous system on my Bubba2.

Is this possible?

I *suppose* that booting from a rescue stick and using dd will match the solution you seek, but I never tried myself
