Hello.

I'm using B3 behind a router that gets unreliable once every two months or so, the cable signal being sometimes weak for reasons outside my control.

When that happens, once every two months, I reboot the router, and lose all DHCP info in the router. And my B3 box gets lost at this point.

Is there a way to let B3 know that the router has lost its DHCP info and make it attempt to acquire new DHCP info automatically? Or not?

If you lose contact with your B3 I doubt it's because it loses contact with the DHCP server unless the lease time is really, really short.

I suspect the real issue here is that routers tend to do name resolving on DHCP clients also. With the router having been reset it has no record anymore of what 'B3' is until the B3 issues a request for a DHCP address. I can't think of any soundproof method, but I suspect that if you pull the network cable and then reconnect, after say a minute, that it will ask for a new lease.

The way to confirm that would be to try to connect to the B3 by IP address, I suppose.

True, but that implies that the person in question knows the DHCP assigned IP address. Although not impossible I'd rule this as a rather slim chance. Another problem that might occur in this situation is that the router will hand you the same IP as the B3 is currently using and then you'll never be able to reach it.

Well, I knew the IP address before I rebooted the router. After I rebooted the router, I could not reach my B3 via its IP address.

I haven't been trying to reach any 'b3' name, as I do not care so much for DNS resolution on my LAN.
