Hi,
well, on the website it says "no technical skills required" but I beg to differ. I tried installing the B3 Wifi tonight and now it won't work at all. At first I was able to access the server interface through Google Chrome but was unable to access any other sites on internet using the same browser, I think it was some DNS error. Anyway, I completed the first couple of steps in the quick guide including creating a wireless network through the B3. Then all of a sudden things got the other way round, I could access the internet but not the B3. I'm using a Mac btw with Lion OS.
So anyway, I was thinking of doing a complete reset of the B3 and start over, question is how do I do that? Can't find any documentation...
Thanks.

Installation problem
Re: Installation problem
I think we need a little bit more information here to have any chance at all of helping you. How did you connect your B3? Does it act as router or only AP?
A complete reinstallation of the B3 is done using an usb stick with files found here: http://www.excito.com/content/manuals-a ... -downloads

Re: Installation problem
I've tried connecting both the LAN and WAN port to a LAN port of my Bredbandsbolaget modem. I was able to access the web interface again once this evening, went through the setup wizard OK at first but was unable to create an Easyfind name for some reason. Then I tried updating the software but never got beyond 40%. Finally I tried setting the profile to router-firewall-server (scenario 2 according to the manual) but then the whole thing froze up. I haven't changed the connections at all since then, only restarted my computer, but now I get that Firefox can't establish a connection to the server on b3.local. Quite frustrating really.
Summary of my problems/questions so far:
1. Should I connect the LAN port on the modem to the WAN port on B3?
2. Is it enough to type "b3.local" in the browser address line or do I have to add http:/ / or a slash afterwards? I've tried many different ways anyway.
3. When should I change the WiFi network to the one provided by B3 in stead of my ISP? I can connect to the www over the B3 network as it is now but I still can't access the web interface.
4. As a piece of information I called my ISP today and learned that I can only have 5 devices connected to the modem due to IP-address limitations which was news to me. So earlier today I shut down 2 phones, 1 iPad, 1 Xbox, 1 LED TV and 1 Windows XP computer. As far as I can count I now have only my Mac and the B3 connected to the modem so this shouldn't really be a problem.

Re: Installation problem
If you want to use your B3 as a router, yes. If you only want to use the B3 as a server you should not use the WAN port at all.drleister wrote:1. Should I connect the LAN port on the modem to the WAN port on B3?
If you enter just "b3.local" in your browser it should automatically assume you want to use http so that shouldn't be needed. The first thing I should try if I were you would be to ping the B3. Open a command window and just type "ping b3" or "ping b3.local" and see if it returns an ip address and if the B3 answers on the given address.drleister wrote:2. So your isp provider also has wireless network in the equipment you got from them? Well... As long as they don't use the same frequency there's nothing saying you can't have both enabled at the same time, at least until you've got everything working. For the future it seems like a good idea to only have one wireless network.drleister wrote:3. When should I change the WiFi network to the one provided by B3 in stead of my ISP? Hmmm... So you mean that your isp let you have 5 external ip addresses? I don't know if this is only Sweden, but it seems unusual to me. I only have one. That's where the router comes into the picture. In my case that is my B3. The router has one address on the outside and then sets up an internal network where you can have as many addresses as you want.drleister wrote:4. This is what I get when I ping it:2. Is it enough to type "b3.local" in the browser address line or do I have to add http:/ / or a slash afterwards? I've tried many different ways anyway.

Request timeout for icmp_seq 1

Request timeout for icmp_seq 3
Request timeout for icmp_seq 4

Request timeout for icmp_seq 6
Request timeout for icmp_seq 7

Has the B3 been assigned the wrong IP-address and how can I correct it? Or is sth else wrong?
No, I've probably misunderstood tech support, they said I could have 5 devices attached but as you point out it's probably just one IP-address that's being distributed to a maximum of 5 devices.4. Re: Installation problem
wtf? 192.168 subnets cost money these days so that they need to restrict it to 5 devices?
Re: Installation problem
Ok, you obviously get a name resolution for the name b3. Hard to know if the ip is correct or not since you get no ping answer (is that called a "pong"?). Really hard to tell what could be wrong without more information. For example if you're trying to ping the b3 from the wan side it could be that the default setting is not to answer ping (not sure about this).drleister wrote:This is what I get when I ping it:

I'm saying this again: If you have ONE external IP (that you get from your ISP) you can have as many internal IP's behind your router, they have no way of knowing this! I would say that it is not a good idea to have more than 16 000 000 network attached devices in your home since then addresses even in the 10.x.x.x span are getting low.drleister wrote:No, I've probably misunderstood tech support, they said I could have 5 devices attached but as you point out it's probably just one IP-address that's being distributed to a maximum of 5 devices
Re: Installation problem
Do i just place the files on the USB-Stick or shall i unzip? then i just place the stick in the b3 and restart or what? Doesent say anywhere?
Re: Installation problem
Well, I've been in contact with the helpful guys at Excito and they've helped me fix things. It seems that the culprit in this case was my hypermodern beautifully designed Mac which I bought this winter. As soon as I tried logging in using my obsolete HP PC from 2003 everything worked fine. I still can't access the user interface with the Mac but apart from that I'm up and running.
Anyone know if I have to change the Mac settings in any way to get access?
Thanks for your help anyway.

Re: Installation problem
You should unzip it. Look in the manual at the same download location (http://download.excito.net/web/B3/B3-UM-eng.pdf), page 136-138.zne wrote:Do i just place the files on the USB-Stick or shall i unzip? then i just place the stick in the b3 and restart or what? Doesent say anywhere?
