USB Boot Problems

Hello all,

Up until a few weeks ago my B2 was working fine. I went away for a few days and found that the B2 had a 2HZ LED flash and was no longer reachable via SSH. It never tries to get an IP address from DHCP any longer.

So I got a USB boot from Excito.

I have so far been unable to get the thing to start up.

I have tried holding the button down whilst plugging in the power supply and keeping it held down until the light blinks at 4Hz. After a few more seconds it just shuts down again.

I am on the verge of throwing the damn thing through the window. Why make it so hard to boot from USB, and why are the rescue instructions so damn vague?

Hi raz,

The rescue sticks can be tricky to get working, but I have never experienced what you describe (that it shuts down, or that it goes into blinking mode on it's own accord). So it sounds like a hardware failure.
You should email support_at_excito_dot_com.

Best regards,

CheeseBoy

EDIT:
Or if you have the equipment, pull the disc out of the bubba, use your SATA/USB converter and plug it into your PC and analyse the logs.

I suppose the flash was 1 Hz when you got back from vacation, since this is normal boot blink (2 Hz is USB boot which would require pressing the button). Most likely you had a power failure which caused a reboot, and as a consequence of this and bad luck, inconsitencies on your file system. unfortunately, Bubba 2 doesn't go in to auto-rescue by itself but just halts boot.

Regarding the USB install this is tricky on the B2 for various reasons. If you want to continue trying yourself try using a USB hard drive instead of a USB stick, they are more likely to work.
