Excito's B3 and TOR

I have mentioned Tor and Excito in :
http://isprins.blogspot.com/2010/12/exc ... eedom.html

Since i mailed Excito and Tor and suggested a cooperation to create the worlds first box with a built in Tor router, the developers of Tor got a pair of free B3 units to play around with.

The Result:

Tor will be included in B3's software by default, and can be set as a client, bridge, non-exit relay, or exit relay. The only thing remaining is this bug:

https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/2594

Tor functions should be available when Excito releases a update of the
software, so a simple update from the web interface should suffice.

It is also mentioned on my blog:

Here is the bug tracker that tracks the progress of hacking together a web based GUI, so Tor can be configured easily.
https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/2791

The owner of that bug ticket can be reached at :
runa.sandvik@*mail.com
( replace the * with a g ,or else the mail address wont work)
I am sure that he wont mind if someone wants to help.

Any progress on this? Will we see TOR fully integrated in the next SW update? :)

It seems likely that it will be included in the SW update.

The remaining "bug" is here:

Hi everyone,

I have been working on the web interface for a couple of weeks now. The plan is to allow users to easily configure Tor as a bridge, non-exit relay or exit relay. I know that some people might want to set up the B3 as a client and transparently proxy all traffic through Tor; I may add support for this later.

The design of the web interface is pretty much done, and I have some functionality working already. For example; the exit policies are disabled when you're configuring a bridge or a non-exit relay, and you will not be able to set a directory port when configuring a bridge.

If you have any comments or questions, feel free to email me: runa@torproject.org, send me a message on twitter: https://www.twitter.com/runasand or leave a comment on https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/2791.

Great stuff Runa! :D

Regarding setting up B3 as a client and transparantly proxy all traffic trough TOR - There is a section in the wiki/howto for that.

Hope to see your stuff in an official B3 Sw update release in a not too distant future!

Yes, there is a section in the Tor wiki that covers how you can use iptables to set up your server to automatically proxy your traffic through Tor. However, the web interface we are working on at the moment will not support this. Also, there are various security concerns related to proxying *all* the traffic through Tor, rather than just the applications that are considered to be Tor-safe.

It's planned for the 2.4 release (B3 and Bubba 2). Slightly delayed since some maintenance projects got in between but sometime this autumn (current deadline is last october, but might move).

Sorry for the delay.

It's in the 2.4-RC1 for B2 already, and in field test by the Tor guys.

2.4 stable (B2 and B3) is in the works but not very close yet.
