I'm considering using the B3 for a project that requires a low-power solution with high I/O throughput. Most likely I would attach two Intel X25-E drives (one internal, one eSATA) in RAID0. Since performance-per-watt is extremely important and the application's performance benefits from more system memory, I'm curious about the following:

1. Is it possible to upgrade the installed DDR2 module? (I'm guessing the answer is no, but thought I'd ask.)

2. How feasible would it be to install a custom distro with all extraneous services stripped out? I don't need a web server, FTP, mail server, WiFi, etc. Just "bare" linux with telnetd, gcc, software RAID, and either ext4 or XFS support.

3. What is the power consumption of a B3 (minus the internal drive and any external devices) under 100% cpu load?

I'm also interested in upgrading my RAM. I'd like to be able to up it to 4GB. I'm sure opening the enclosure would be a warranty void?

Still would be keen to do it should there be no issues with it.

I'm quite sure that:

A. Opening the enclosure does not void the warranty.

B. Starting to solder stuff on to the mainboard WILL void the warranty.

Also I'm not sure here, is our processor really able to address 4GB of RAM?
