B2 web interface not responding and weird ssh problem

Hi
I recently bought a Bubba two. I thought it would be a nice low-cost addition to the network as a backup server.
I installed it, plugged it in and I could access it just fine via both the web interface and ssh.
I created a new user account and tested some of the various features in the web interface.

Then I didn't use it for about a week.

Now when I was about to start setting up scheduled backups etc I can not access it any more.
When I try to access it via the web interface the browser just keeps loading and loading but it never gets any response.
However I can always access it via ssh with the user account I created earlier but as soon as I try to do, well anything really, it just hangs. It simply just stops. I do not get disconnected or anything like that. The terminal simply just becomes unresponsive. Sometimes when I wait a really long time I get:
'Write failed: Broken pipe'.
I can't ctrl-c or anything like that. However I can start a new terminal and connect to the bubba again via ssh but the same thing just keeps happening.

Examples of things I have tried to do when this happens:
Open the various log files from apache using nano.
Copy the log files from apache using scp.
running 'top'

I can call 'ps' to see the various processes running but I couldn't see anything really weird there.
I have tried to access it directly from ubuntu as well as from windows using putty but with the same result.
I have restarted it a few times but without result.

Does anyone have an idea what might be going on or some ideas how to proceed?

could be a million things, including a dodgy IP cable or a bad switch. I'd check out these potential issues first just to make sure the problem is really bubba and not some other device.
