two passwords?

okay, I am totally lost.....

here is the problem.
I was trying to connect via explorer to my bubba (as a network share).
this somehow did not work. so, continued reading this forum.

that brought me to Putty.
I've connected via Putty to my bubba with my username.
logging on for the first time, it asked
You are required to change your password immediately (root enforced)
So...I did.

this solved the mapping as a share problem...but strangely enough: mapping works with my old password.
logging on to the admin pages in my browser, required the new password.

how is this possible?

Hi
the new Windows versions now require a username and password even for public shares.
but because it is a public share, samba ignores whatever windows sends as username and password.
so it only looks like there are 2 passwords

thanks for the reply eeks.
looks like you are right, although I am not entirely sure about this.

well, this might be an explenation for mapping as a network drive.
somehow, you need to change the password twice...that's my little theory...
