how to tweak Apache performance?

Hi,
I got a B2 and the only thing running on it are Samba, FTP and apache. turned of the rest figuring it would slow B2 down even more.
It is serving a personal website (ActiveCollab) that uses MySql PHP and it performance really substandard. Every request to the server is slow also updates to MySql take too long. Does anyone know how i can boost the performance?
- can i stick more memory in it?
- can i do some clever tweakes to PHP or MysQl?
tnx
