Special characters in the user's password

Hey hello,

I recently bought a Bubba|Two and I'm quite pleased with it (although I did hope that the transfer speeds would be a bit better than the 6/7 MB/s that I get out of it...?).

I have a question about the user's password. I added a user and was unable to use any (or at least one in particular) special character in the user's password. I can imagine that this is done to make sure that all the initials configuration doesn't get screwed up, but I'm wondering if it's okay to change that password from the commandline later on. It's the password that I normally use for that particular user on any other linux system - I know maybe not that secure.

So basically: if I passwd from the command line after the initial creation, would that lead to any problems?
