Slimserver Software Installation Advice

I have read through the forum and have found conflicting information. I am aware that an update is on the way but, in the interim, what is the best way to install the squeezebox slimserver software. Is it;

1) Install from the stable repositories,
2) Install from the un-stable repositories,
3) Download and install from source.

Thoughts on the best approach considered â€“ before I dive in at the wrong end!

All i did was

apt-get install slimserver

Worked great. Seems to be an excito package.

Thanks for the pointer to the package.
It seems to have installed fine, dragging a great number of dependencies with it, but port 9000 remains silent.
Is there further config to be done? Any clues for the next step much welcomed.
