PLEASE do not use a black or dark-grey background colour. Dark letters on light background is by far the best. In order to avoid the awfully "kewl" light-gray letters on white, I configured my Firefox to use black letters always. This helps readability in most cases, apart from Excito, which uses the ☠@&%!! black backgrounds.
