Hi!
As I wrote I had no problems with printer instalation from WinXP and Vista, but I would like also to print from Linux (Fedora8), that I have on my laptop together with Vista. So I tried to install it on Linux, but without success.
I got printer installed (I used smb://...), but I can't print.
Where to dig to find solution - any help would be appreciated!

I have the same problem.
I can NOT print from linux. I'm about 5 minutes away from sending this useless server back to exicto.
The documentation for printing from it is sparse to say the least.
If anyone is sucessfully printing from linux, then please tell me how.
I've tried printing to smb://bubba/epson with no luck.
I also tried to print a test page from cups... http:/bubba:631 but it never cam out.
If I try to modify the cups settings, I get an error message...

and then no response.
The only change I have made, which is non standard, was changing the root password.
I'd appreciate any help.
Cheers,
G.

The printer on the bubba is a so called "raw printer", so you need to set up the required drivers on your local computer. What printer in particular are you using?

Hey Carl,
I'm using an Epson stylus photo R800.
I've previously used this from another linux print server without issue.

You mean you used current computer connected to an other printer server and it worked fine?
Either way, following should work:
make sure you have the package foomatic-db-gutenprint installed (that's debian, probably similar naming on other distributions);
Either use your usual printer config utillity or access localhost:631 and choose administration→add printer
Choose "Internet printing protocol (ipp)", and set the target to "ipp://bubba/epson"
Choose "make" as "Epson",
Choose the correct model "Epson Stylus Photo R800 Foomatic/gutenprint-ijs.5.0 (en)" for example.
Hopefully this will work, but if there is any problems, please reply here.

I installed hplip from
http://hplipopensource.com on my laptop.
Tried to add network printer as from
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/in ... index.html, but it does not find any network printer even If I typed direct IP address.
I have HP Deskjet F2180
Looking forward for your replay,

You should be able to find your printer at ipp://bubba/printers/Printer, also check that the firewall pass though the requests from hplip (try turn of the wall). Also, I have never used hplips gui before, so I can't say if it can find normal network printers, you could try
http://localhost:631 on your laptop instead, and add it there.

You should be able to find your printer at ipp://bubba/printers/Printer, ...
Carl
Thanks Carl it worked.
It would be nice if you could help with support for scanner installation:

Also I could not get to bubba in Linux by using Bubba name, just IP address.
While in windows is is o'k.
It looks like there some things in DNS should be configure - could you help with some directions.
Thanks in advance,
Janeks

O'k - I found where that LAN hosts lists resides in Linux.
Now I would like to find out what is needed to fully use my multi functional printer features. One part is printing and another scanning.
For printing I managed to install and work on my PC's both OSes - Win and Linux. To use all features of that I would like to use also printer manager, that f.ex. shows ink levels a.o.
Is it possible on this Bubba configuration (IPP)?
HP Device Manager shows following message:
Note: Only devices with the hp: or hpfax: CUPS backend will appear in the HP Device Manager.
For scanning I am stumbled at the same place:
