PA,

Thanks for guiding me!

I ran the commands you gave me and after that I tried to update proftp but I ain't getting anywhere.

This is what I get:

Code: Select all

bubba:/var/samba# chown root:root public
bubba:/var/samba# apt-get install proftp
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package proftp

We do not supply proftp in our repositories, but we do require it to be there for the bubba package to work.
If you would like to reinstall it, you will need to enable the global debian repositories by removing the "#"-marks in the "/etc/apt/sources.list" file.
After that do an "apt-get update" and then you should be able to install the proftp again.
Be careful though to insert the "#" again befor you run an update from the web-admin interface, otherwise things will most likely start to malfunction (as many other packages will be updated and maybe some will not work with our configurations).

Hi PA,

I removed all the # -marks and ran the "apt-get update". This is what it looked like:

Code: Select all

bubba:/home/username# apt-get update
Get:1 http://security.debian.org sarge/updates/main Packages [386kB]
Get:2 http://security.debian.org sarge/updates/main Release [112B]

Get:4 http://ftp.se.debian.org sarge/main Release [97B]
Get:5 http://ftp.se.debian.org sarge/non-free Packages [51.9kB]
Get:6 http://ftp.se.debian.org sarge/non-free Release [101B]

Reading Package Lists... Done
After that I tried to install proftp using the "apt-get install proftp" and that gave me this result:

Code: Select all

bubba:/home/username# apt-get install proftp
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package proftp
Is proftp or any ftp installed at all on my Bubba?

A quick note here. (Not sure if this is just a typo though)

The package for ftp is called proftpd note the trailing d.

Hi Tor!

Thanks for helping out here. I tried that and it gave me this result

Code: Select all

bubba:/home/username# apt-get install proftpd
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
proftpd is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 0B of archives.
After unpacking 0B of additional disk space will be used.
Setting up bubba (0.31.4-1) ...
admin:x:1000:100:Administrator:/home/admin:/bin/bash
Admin user already exists
Admin already a samba user
Reloading web server config...done.
Reloading Postfix configuration...done.
Reloading proftpd configuration....
 done.
After that I tried to connect to my Bubba via ftp .....same results - no good!

I also tried to restart Bubba and the ftp services but that doesn't help, it just won't let me connecting to it via ftp, saying "Remote host has closed the connection."

Any other suggestion....reinstall Bubba?

Ok,

What does a repeated apt-get upgrade tell you? Do you still have conflicts?

Ok,

But what I wanted to find out here is if there where any remaining package errors. Which I assume there wherent this time?

In this case it must be some problem with the ftp configuration. Lets start by checking if the server is running. Do a

Code: Select all

ps ax | grep ftp
if everything is ok you should see something like

Code: Select all

 1223 ? Ss 0:05 proftpd: (accepting connections)

The next step is to see if the logfiles has some information. Do

Code: Select all

grep proftpd /var/log/daemon.log
and take a look on the output.

Looks like a configuration conflict. You most likely try to run proftpd as a inetd service. That will conflict with the way we, Excito, uses it.

Do a

Code: Select all

dpkg-reconfigure proftpd
as root and when prompted, select standalaone as the way to run the service.

Tor,

That worked, now the ftp is running again.

Thanks for helping out here :D
