I guess it depends what you are downloading. If you mean torrents, manually deleting (or moving) them from your <user>/torrents directory and then restarting the client as you described doing should do the trick. For that you would not even need to connect via console. Does that help?

Have not had a problem with this for a long time. The root cause seems to be solved. I suggest closing this thread, similar issues now would probably have a different cause.

This is an old discussion already, it does not happen that often with me since the B3.
But here it happens when i add a faulty torrent file of after removing a download (seldom).

Yes, we have done bug fixes since this thread started that seems to solve these issues.
