Updating SqueezeCenter

Post by xednom »

Hi - I'm a relative novice when it comes to bubba|two and have so far been really pleased with what it will do just out-of-the-box. It works well with my Squeezebox Classic but I've noticed that I'm on an old version 7.21 of squeezecentre and I'm keen to upgrade to take advantage of some audio performance improvements in later versions, being something of an Audiophile.
But what is the best approach? Is there an apt-get I can use to pull a reliable ppc-linux version down from the debian repository or do I just get a generic unix tar from the logitech/slimdevices site and install into /usr/share/squeezecenter/ ? I understand the code is primarilly perl based, so I'm hoping there is nothing ppc-specific to hinder the upgrade.

Any advice and guidence much appreciated.
Cheers

We are planning to release a build of 7.3.2 in the near future, will just have to do some more testing; We couldn't release 7.3.1 due to a bug in it's firmware system.

Thanks Carl, that is good news.
I could not find a binary-ppc version in stable/main at http://debian.slimdevices.com/
Once it has passed the tests, will you be hosting the newer 7.3.2 squeezecenter package at update.excito.org or will it be hosted eventually at at slimdevices.com?
I would be happy to test an unstable if you want to make it available ;-)

Updating Squeezecenter to 7.3.2

Post by neilpotter »

Count me in for testing SqueezeCenter 7.3.2

Does anyone have instructions for installing from debian.slimdevices.com?

I see the source which is mostly perl other scripts, but nothing to build the binaries for powerpc that are there in the existing version.

We are building our own packages of squeezecenter; We have a build of 7.3.2 available in claire.

Hi
During the upgrade of squeezecenter package from clair I was prompted for the MySQL password for root (which I don't ever remember setting in the first place)

mysql said: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Can someone let me know what the MySQL root password is for squeezecenter on Bubba|Two

Many thanks

On my Bubba Two there is apparently no password for the squeezecenter database in mysql.

Updating squeezecenter to 7.3.2 from claire

Post by neilpotter »

Xednom:

I got the 7.3.2 update from claire to work without any problems.

With squeezecenter previously installed and working on B|2 through the web interface:

Comment in claire line in /etc/apt/sources.list
# apt-get clean
# apt-get update
# apt-get install squeezecenter
Reply with defaults through out
(Comment out claire again and clean up)
Reboot

After the install or a reboot, squeezecenter takes several minutes to come up during which time it looks like there's nothing on port 9000.

neilpotter:

Thanks for your help.
I can confirm my port 9000 is now listening after a considerable delay.

Lots of errors in server.log regarding firmware bin files from
http://update.squeezenetwork.com/update/firmware/7.3.2/

I'm guessing the site is temporarily down?

Update:
SqueezeBox is showing...
ERROR: MISSING FIRMWARE
Server can't connect to Internet to obtain firmware update.
...when holding down the brightness button to get the update.

But I have music once again :-)

Much appreciated
