Not so much B3 related, but I can't find any answers elsewhere and maybe somebody here has some clue what's happening.
I have configured my B3 to publish three SSID's. One of these is WPA encrypted and the other two are non password protected networks with a limited number of connections and one them meant for visitors. I've used all of these SSID's successfully with a number of devices, including my own android phone. Today however my mother in law came in with an android tablet and it simply refuses to connect to the guest network (named "guest"). I tried connecting it to the encrypted SSID which is my home network and it happily does so. Lifting the MAC address restriction on the second unencrypted network it also has no issue whatsoever. And that network is even more restricted than the guest network is, because I only run squeezebox devices on it. Trying to connect to "guest" I simply do not see any activity on the B3. I'm quite sure this has to be something in the tablet, but has anyone ever seen this type of behaviour before?

OT: Android WiFi connection issue
Re: OT: Android WiFi connection issue
a long shot, but what happens when you change the SSID name to something other than 'guest' or 'anonymous'.
cool hack btw

Re: OT: Android WiFi connection issue
Pretty sure that it would work, because there's essentially no difference between the guest SSID and the one I use for squeezebox (to which it does connect). They're both /29 networks and they both use no encryption. It's just not convenient to change the SSID, because some of my frequent visitors are such complete computer illiterates that they'll first start to panic and then ask me to fix it, cursing that I broke it.
The thing is, I don't get it why that particular tablet won't connect. Is it hardcoded to ignore "guest" because the manufacturer considers it unsafe? Did she (or her husband) ever use the tablet on another network that uses that same SSID and does it now want to reuse the parameters from that network on mine?

Thanks. Did have some help from the internet though, I must admit.cool hack btw
Re: OT: Android WiFi connection issue
Well, that would be so stupid that it could actually be true, so I'd tend to rule that out first before you spend days looking for a technical reason.Gordon wrote: Is it hardcoded to ignore "guest" because the manufacturer considers it unsafe?

Easier said than done.
