File transfer issues

Post by blitz »

Hi,

I got my Bubba 2 server last week and I'm having problems with downloads and file transfer speeds to and from the bubba.
I got an 100/100 mbit connection and when i download files to the bubba i max out a 2.5 mB/s (i think wget logged 100Mb file at 2.64 mB/s).
On my workstation I downloaded the same file in FireFox and had a transfer speed at around 7 mB/s all the time.
When I transfer files locally using the samba protocol I have the same problem, around 2,5 mB/s i max, using FTP it's a litte better around 10 mB/s. This is far from what a gbit lan should be able to deliver.

My my setup at home is "Internet -> Bubba 2 -> Dlink DIR-655 (gbit switch) -> Wired connection to some of my computers"

Does anyone else has this problem or is it only me? Does anyone know a good solution?

Ok, firstly I think we have to make clear which units you are using here. When you say "mB/s", you mean "MB/s" right? (since millibytes per second don't make sense). And the 100 Mb file is really 100 MB? (100 megabit is about 12.5 megabytes).

Did you test every transfer more than one time? Just one try doesn't always tell the entire truth. But I can admit it feels strange that FF gets three times as fast download as wget...

I'm sorry that i didn't express myself clear enough. In my first post i use MegaByte/Second when I'm talking about speed, MegaBit/GigaBit when im talking about the bandwith and MegaBytes when I talk about size.

Are I alone with this problem? Does anyone have a tip on how to troubleshoot to find a solution?
