Anybody can shed some info on whether this is common for ISPs to block dns requests in this manner?

try 'host' and 'dig' to verify the problem is with DNS, and on which end of the DNS.

I get unknown host from ping. The rosolv.cof is populated and the addresses are pingable. Its not changed by openvpn.
This is with the vpn on:

root@b3:/home/username# cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 193.150.193.150 ...

I try to connect from the bubba 3 with an external OpenVPN server The connection is established but name resolution stops working. I can ping from the b3 to the outside using ip numbers, but the name resolution doesn't work.

I did modify /etc/network/firewall.conf by adding:
-A INPUT -i tun+ -j ...

Why is this necessary? You put clear-text wpa passwords there. This makes the security weaker. E.g. you won't be able to make a guest account or similar without revealing the wpa secrets.

I still think you should change the hdd provider. At least be more careful about pushing it to the users. Run it some way to ensure it won't access anything but /dev/sda (can selinux/chroot ...

This not at all "solved" or "old". My brand new bubba3 (january 2012) has already 40800 LoadCycles at 318 hours of PowerOn. Thats 128 cycles / hour!


While the typical load cycle limit for HDs is normally 300000-600000, I found somewhere on that forum
