Happy new year!
I'm trying to set up my B3 so that, when traveling and on insecure networks, I could VPN into the B3 and surf the web etc. through it.
I've been following the article "VPN (Virtual private network)" (dated 2011-09-08) which deals with setting up a VPN between two Bubbas, but should ...

HFS+ mounts as read-only
I've attached an external hard drive to the B3, to use as a Time Machine backup disk. (I used to have the disk attached directly to my Mac.)
After a bit of tinkering, the Mac now mounts the drive, but it is in read-only mode. The problem seems to be somewhere in the linux code, but I can't find it ...

Connecting to an AFP server through the B3
Hi!
I have set up an AFP (Apple File Protocol) server on the home network, and when I connect to the B3 WiFi (or through the ISP's gateway's wifi), my Macbook automatically find the server.
When connecting from the Internet, things do not work, though. I have set up forwarding of all relevant ...

Graphical way of manipulating IPtables?
Is there any tool that allows one to work the Bubba's IPtables from a regular computer?
I try to enter commands through a terminal window, but get cryptic results. I really miss having a GUI.

Re: Feeding new rules into IPtables
Aha.
I tried to enter the new rules (ssh-ing into the bubba, su-ing, opening /etc/network/firewall.conf with nano, pasting new rules into the file, saving it, and finally entering iptables-restart), but it just overwrote the new rules with the old ones.

Feeding new rules into IPtables
Greetings!
I am about to reprogram IPtables on my bubba, but entering the rules one by one by hand is tedious, and would make it hard to change the rules if needed.
Is there any way to batch-load a new rule-set into IPtables (such as creating a text file on the bubba's HDD, and instructing ...

Re: IPTables rule set
Hmmm... I see.
I will delve into these issues.
Regarding point 6: Please do so. That would be interesting to read.
Edit:
I just ran the ip command. The output looks like this:
1: lo inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
2: eth0 inet 192.168.1.67/24 brd 192.168.1.255 scope global eth0
5: br0 inet ...

Re: IPTables rule set
Thank You for Your kind comments.
I am afraid that I am a complete newbie at these things - years ago, I went Mac in order not to ever see a command prompt again (being our tools, machines should adapt to people, not the other way around), but unfortunately, the world developed in a different ...

IPTables rule set
Hi!
I am piecing together a rule set for IPTables on my B3, but I would like to have another pair of eyes look at it before I feed it into the Bubba.
Does anyone have experience of setting up IPTables rules? PM me and I'll send you a copy of the draft.

Re: IPtables and AFP
Oh, goodie!
I have been going through what little documentation there is for vsftpd, and there was nothing about changing ports, but this would circumvent that very nicely.
Thank You very much!

Re: IPtables and AFP
Thank You for the quick and useful answer!
When it comes to AFP (Apple Filing Protocol), can I use the same rules, substituting "22" for the AFP port number?

Happy New Year, everybody!
Thank You all for Your help with earlier questions.
Before asking a new question, let me describe the home network as it is taking form:
An ADSL gateway is connected to the B3
Client computers at home are being connected to the LAN-side of the B3, wired or wireless

Newbie: Accessing external disk through FTP
Hi, everybody!
The home server system is coming together, piece by piece.
Right now, the B3 has got my external HDDs plugged into it, and I am trying to access their content over the internet. This turned out to be harder than I expected.
The mounting points for the HDDs are automatically placed ...

Re: Attaching an "outsourced" NAS
I see. That was most insightful.
Then it will probably be best to use a separate computer for the NAS anyway.
I'll report back when the whole thing is done.
Thank You very much!
