Re: Hard disk errors -- how to fsck
Thanks. I got there, but it aint pretty. Fsck exists after two dozen bad blocks with a "signal 7". From that point onwards bubba only says "Bus Error" irrespective which command I give (halt, shutdown, ls, top, free). The only commands that executed normally are sshd (I could SSH into it), cd and ...

Hard disk errors -- how to fsck
Today I noted in the output of my PC's daily backup that my B2 is suffering from HD errors (B2 pulls a backup using rsnapshot and then sends me a summary of what it has done). Extended test using smartmontools confirms 1457 bad sectors in /home. I then tried to do an fsck but was not able to unmount ...

Rrsnapshot is a very similar alternative. Works a charm, also to use Bubba to pull backups from other PCs.

Re: Bubba2 Album
Can you post instructions how you got Gallery 3 installed? I managed to get Gallery 2 installed on my Bubba (quite some time ago), and now find that the copious notes I took are insufficient to install Gallery 3.
Secondly, how do you find the performance of Gallery 3 on B2? I like the concept of ...

How do I get more software of compile it myself
There is one utility which I really would want on my bubba -- deduplication by means of freedup . This is not present in the repositories for bubba as far as I can make out. I know that 'freedups' is available, but it is not working quite as well.
Any other deduplication software for this ...

Re: Bubba2 printing problem
I have almost exactly the same problem, but with an HP Laserjet 1010. Typical scenario is that I print, lights starts (and never stops) flashing. Pressing buttons doesn't change this, but re-submitting same document does mostly (but not always), result in an error page along the lines "PCL XL error ...

Re: using bubba2 alongside existing wireless router
I think this should work, provided you disable wireless on your router (otherwise clients will not know whether to connect to your router or bubba). Cabling should be as follows:
router --> WAN-port on Bubba
LAN-port Bubba --> clients
Wifi Bubba --> clients
You may need to ensure that your clients ...

Re: Photo album with support for movies
I think it is a better solution to use a gallery like e.g. Zenphoto wich has built in support both .mov, .flv and more.
I have had a look at their website and like what I see. Downloading and putting it somewhere (/opt) is all doable, but I cannot figure out how to progress from here. Haven't been ...

Re: Syncrify backup software
Do you know duplicity? I think this fits the bill (i.e. off-site backup, only upload delta's, encrypt on client not on server), but I haven't had the time yet to try this out.

Tweaking photo albums
I have recently started to use the photo album stuff. It is functional but pretty Spartan. My main wishes would be to have a bigger preview of the photo (I have a 1680x1050 monitor; having a preview of 600 x 450 pix leaves a lot of white space) and ability to customise the album further (use black ...

Re: Mount HUMAX 5050 PVR via FTP possible
You can only access the Humax via FTP, so will need an FTP client that runs on Bubba. A program like lftp can be started from an xterm. You could ssh to bubba from a PC, then start lftp (or whatever ftp client you prefer) and then connect from there to Humax. During transfer your ftp clients needs ...
